How it works
Tabao Us is the platform. Your business runs as a connected account on Stripe. Customers pay on your storefront; Stripe creates a Payment Intent, renders the PayNow QR, and confirms the charge. A webhook flips the order to Paid, decrements inventory, and notifies you on Telegram.
Capabilities we enable on your account: card_payments, paynow_payments, grabpay_payments, transfers. Country: Singapore. Settlement currency: SGD.
Activate your account
Open the manage dashboard, go to Payouts, and click Continue Stripe onboarding. Stripe walks you through KYC in their hosted form. Most Singapore sole proprietors complete it in under 10 minutes with SingPass; companies use the entity's UEN and a director's NRIC.
When you submit, Stripe reviews. Your status moves through Onboarding, then Under review, then Active. You can leave the form and finish later from the same Continue button. Live charges are blocked until your account is Active.
- Onboarding: you have not finished the form yet.
- Under review: Stripe is verifying your details.
- Active: you can take payments and receive payouts.
- Restricted: Stripe needs more information. Open the dashboard to see what.
Accepting a payment
At checkout, the customer picks PayNow, card, or GrabPay. Which methods show up depends on what you have enabled in Settings, Payments.
For PayNow, the storefront shows a QR rendered by Stripe. The QR is valid for 180 seconds. If the customer takes longer, they can request a new one. The amount and reference are baked in, so they never need to type anything in their bank app.
Once Stripe confirms the charge, the order moves to Paid in your Orders page, inventory decrements automatically, the customer gets an email confirmation if they provided one, and you get a Telegram alert.
Fees
Processing fees apply per successful charge.
For each method you can choose to absorb the fee or pass it to the customer as a surcharge. The toggle is in Settings, Payments. If you absorb it, Stripe deducts the fee from the charge before payout. If you surcharge, the customer pays the fee on top and you receive the full ticket.
Tabao Us also charges a small platform fee on each transaction. We agree the rate with you during onboarding and it shows on every payout statement.
Payouts
Payouts arrive in SGD to your linked Singapore bank account, typically T+2 business days from when the charge clears. The Payouts page in the manage dashboard shows your available and pending balance plus your full payout history.
- Pending: the payout is queued.
- In transit: Stripe has sent the funds to your bank.
- Paid: the funds are in your account.
- Failed or canceled: Stripe could not deliver. Open the payout to see the reason.
To change your bank account or payout schedule, open your Stripe dashboard from the same Payouts page.
Refunds
Open the order in Orders and click Cancel & refund. Stripe returns the money to the original payment method. PayNow refunds land back in the customer's bank within one business day; card refunds typically take three to five days.
Refund states: processing, then succeeded or failed. If a refund fails, retry from the same order. If it keeps failing, message us and we will help.
Disputes
PayNow is push-only, so chargebacks on PayNow charges are extremely rare. Card payments can be disputed. When a dispute opens, Stripe holds the disputed amount, emails you, and gives you a deadline to respond. You submit evidence inside the Stripe dashboard.
Tabao Us logs every dispute on the relevant order so you can see it in context.
Stripe dashboard access
Once your account is Active, the Payouts page shows an Open Stripe dashboard link. Use the Stripe dashboard for tax forms, invoices, bank account updates, and dispute responses. Tabao Us does not store your Stripe credentials.
